SKETCHES OF LUNENBURG

First watercolour done in the trip. Colours went off, drawing was distorted...

One of the better sketches that I like myself. The sketch was done on site while the colour was quickly added the next day. For some reasons, I was in the mood for some orange that day. I guess it's true also that sometimes when we dont give too much thought to some actions, the result may be surprisingly good and which we will possibly not be able to achieve if we were to spend too much time on it. Overdoing...that is often the case for most of my paintings.

Another done during my biking trip along the Lahave river running past our cottage. It's just some random junk that I spotted while I was doing other paintings( including the one above) on the same spot but I thought that that metal junk was quite interesting even though I have still yet to figure out what it was.

If I had to choose a favorite spot in the Lunenburg old town, the place where I sketch this will be it. It's actually just a deserted part of the shore overlooking the sea and you can have a good view of the opposite shore too. I like it because there's not much people there and one of the more "humanly" place...place of imperfection.
As for the sketch itself, I kind of like it much better after putting in the watercolour even though the drawing was a bit 'out of perspective.'

It was a rainy day and since I chose to go out to Lunenburg instead of staying in the cottage to paint that day, my friend and I went to some restaurant up on the hill which provided a good view towards the sea. Too bad we could not stay there the whole time as more customers started coming in. Else I will probably have painted different views by going 360' around the restaurant!

I was sketching this while sitting right in the middle of the pavement. It's funny now that I recall how it was that people passing by me reacted differently..but pretty politely...one even asked if he was blocking my view...hahaa.. and i thought i will be scolded for blocking his way.
Then there were moments of frustrations with my ink pens which seemed to run out of ink at the most inappropriate moment. At some point in time, my prof who was riding on a bike saw me and dropped by to say "hi!"

This was done at the cottage from looking at the tiny screen in my digi cam. Strangely, the weather was sunny and I was in a pretty chirpy mood that day but my pic seemed to showed a pretty gloomy mood. I guess the rainy mood while I took the pic the day before filled the back of my mind while I was painting it. I was pretty pleased with the result though..

One of the last few quick paintings that I did in the cottage again during my last day in Lunenburg.
