SADAKO

My fav self portrait! Took this with my handphone in Vietnam. Still remembered that we just got back to the guestroom and weren't feeling too good because we had some arguments with this tour agency guy who did not deliver his words about his so called tour package. While waiting for my turn to shower, I just took this. It was meant to be just a simple bored-up pic. But it probably has more effect on others who find its uncanny resemblance to the front page poster of "The Ring".
The pic has been lying in my handphone all this while until recently when I managed to get a friend to help me retrieve it as a jpg using her "bluetooth". So, it's a photo that has been through quite a lot! I'm currently still using this as my hp wallpaper just in case someone tries to steal it...and it can just scare them away!! hehee..pretty useful!

C.R.A.Z.Y

I went to watch a movie with angie yesterday.
Never will I expect myself to watch a montreal film in Singapore, especially when I am going to be back there pretty soon. Oh well, the feeling is not going to be the same if I were to watch it there even though the movie will be a good movie regardless.
I guess that's probably one reason that I appreciated the movie more while I was watching it and after because every now and then, I was trying to identify bits and parts which could make me relate to Montreal. The movie is set in the1920s( should be 1960s-1980s, thanks to angie for the correction) which may make it harder for me to try to find familiar background scenes, but still it did not stop me from feeling the sense of familiarity to the very Montreal-like(Quebec?) suburban neighbourhood. Very Quebecois sense of lifestyle. Even the filming technique seems very much like a Quebec style..but I have to say that this is purely based on my personal biased opinion.

If I have had watched it in Montreal, chances are that I will probably not have given as much credit to it as I have now.
Guess that's why we see the same thing in different ways from different angles. Things always look different from the equator as compared to the higher altitudes.
we aren't CRAZY, we are just human.

I WISH I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING

I am in the midst of figuring out what I am trying to do, but I have no idea what I am doing. So if I don't know what I am doing, how will I be able to describe what I am doing. And if I cannot describe what I am doing, I probably don't know what I have done. And now, I'm just writing things that doesn't make sense because I'm into this not-knowing-what-I-am-doing...

Some nonsense while waiting for the caffeine in my evening teh tarik to dilute away from my blood cells.

EARLY MORNING

It's not too bad to wake up early in the morning!
Going to start to make myself do something like that! Hopefully it'll work out. Just happened to wake up early today because I went to bed early yesterday after being intoxicated by caffeine and not slept much the day before.
Got an email from a friend. Everyone's telling me that Xiaoqiang has messed up my house everywhere..shitted all over the place. Just have to get myself prepared for some big surprises when I get back to my apartment!! We'll see. But most importantly, hopefully she's alright. I have to really thank Winter and Grace ...for helping me clear up the mess quite a bit.
Now counting down to my departure date...9 more days. Can't believe that time is moving by so fast!! I was still thinking that maybe I should just extend my stay abit more! Everyone is counting down for me! Montreal ppl is telling me that I am coming back in less than 2 weeks. Singapore is telling me that I am coming back for good in 4 months time. Well ..well..well..How nice it will be if they are just like JB and Singapore- a causeway apart! Ha ha..Too greedy. Like what my friend said, I can't have the best of both worlds.
Alright, I'll just enjoy my early morning first!

GARBAGE ARCHITECTURE

I was just looking at some random architecture website and saw some of the works made by students. Somehow it reminded me of my own models and works. I always felt that my models are never neat. But I don't think that I am a particularly untidy person. Disorganized maybe. But I think that my stuff are always looking very non-professional because I always have this mentality that it's such a waste of materials and money when we make all those models and panels just to for presentation purposes. So, it just came to my mind all of a sudden that maybe I should really start thinking about going into garbage architecture or architecture that makes uses of recycling products..something like that. I remembered something that a friend said to me before. My friend is someone who hates to shop in shopping malls but loves to shop at second hand stores. There is this second hand chain store , Value Village, in Canada which she brought me to. I was pretty amazed at how long she could spend her time there shopping when she is someone who told me that she felt almost embarrassed to step into shops and try on their clothes. Anyway, she said to me once that she don't like new clothes...almost feel dirtying them or something to make them look used. I found it pretty interesting then.
That's what I am thinking about my models and buildings too. I just feel that they should not look brand new. I prefer to have models that look unfinished and building that have a raw look or maybe unfinished. I just have the urge to continue experimenting with them. Oops! Hope that that's not my excuse for making crappy models!
Anyway,I guess that I should start thinking about making better presentations..Afterall, presentations do help to make a better impression of the whole project. I hope I am not contradicting myself. Alright, I can still have garbagy-looking models but neat presentations! Architecture, to me, is afterall a process, a learning process and never a finished product.

Oh..and this also makes me think of my own stingyness that is partly to be blamed for the consequences of my products. A friend called me '铁公鸡' coz I'm a super stingy person. The funny thing is that this stingyness has been part of me since young!! I remembered when I was having art lesson in primary school and the teacher required us to draw on drawing paper. I was one of the few who brought my drawing block. So I gave(lent? forgot which) them to a couple of classmates around me. Then after the teacher left, I saw a couple of them used the paper that I gave them to trace out 'big bird' from sesame street. After that, they asked me for another piece of drawing paper. I got angry that they were wasting my paper for some unimportant stuff and they will probably end up throwing away my "precious piece of paper". So, I refused to lend them some more and just took back that first piece that I lent to them! Now that I am thinking about it, I don't think that I can find someone more petty and stingy than that ME but nonetheless that was pretty funny!

It's 423am now...and I am still intoxicated by caffeine!! Well, no use regreting now about drinking that ice blended kopi yesterday evening!

SENTOSA WITH COUSIN

MY SATUR - DAY!

Father's Day Lunch @ Thai Restaurant, Roxy Mercuri Hotel

Afternoon Coffee @ Coffee and Toast, City Hall with Lynette

Toilet trips

Buffet Dinner @ Aquamarine, Marina Mandarin

Obviously, the food was fantastic. But more importantly, we had everybody present! Since when was the last time when we last have everyone's attendance? Pardon me for taking pics at the worst possible moments or the most glamorous split second. I could understand your frustrations when I had to click on my camera just when you were so eagerly excited to begin your meal...while you were busy chewing...or after your face start to show signs of eating too much...

Stayover @ Pam's where we challenged ourselves with the very intellectual game of "upwards" in the middle of 2am! To think that we had nothing better to do but to trade in our sleep for some mind boggling!

The Classic Couch Potato

Face Too Big

Cover up for laziness?

Well, after those countless complaints of pictures taken but no signs of them after that, hopefully these pics will help to renew abit of hope from you to spare me the chance to continue to snap pics!! Alright? :D

父亲节块了!

我的可爱的爸爸!
在我记忆中的爸爸,就是一个永远带着笑容和笑眼的爸爸。

COUSIN'S WEDDING

THE WORLD OF LIBRARIES

I just paid the new library a visit today and it reminded me of the new library in Montreal which opened around the same time as our library last year. Nothing similar about their design, just remembered that I was equally fascinated by the opening of Montreal's library as that in Singapore.

Montreal's Grande Bibliotheque by PatKau

Singapore Central Library by Ken Yeang

My all time obsession with phototaking in the toliet!

CYCLING @ EAST COAST PARK

finding what's missing in montreal..
the beach, the sea and the tropical trees

bicycles left to speak for the four missing crew

at least I caught one

ABOUT GENES

I'm just thinking that if I am getting all the worse genes from both sides (from my mum and my dad), where did the good ones go to? I don't think that my bro got all the good ones either. So what's happening to the rest? Maybe they only have bad genes? How come we get all the bad habits?
Isnt' this against Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest? So the bad genes is the fittest? Gosh...

WEDDING DAY

It's funny how we are still exclaiming our surprise till that very moment that my cousin and her husband is about to be solemnised.
The uncles and aunties were saying that they kept thinking that she is still a little girl. Since when has she become "of-age" to marry?
Well, that's how things are..
Even I can't believe that some of the cousins that I used to play catching with already are mummies and daddies...

FRANGLAISE!

I just saw this in my camera...took this on the day I left for Singapore when I went to the studio to do some last minute cleaning up..
It's a little note that my urban planning partner drew while we were doing our first urban planning assignment. Looking at the note now makes me laugh because we were wasting so much time then trying to understand and communicate among ourselves...between a francophone and two anglophones..well..my australian friend(who knew a little french) decided to make things abit better by putting herself in the middle as the Franglaise! (No. it did not help that much.)
The little note now lies pinned up at the back of the studio and serves as a reminder of those moments of frustrations between the Australian, the Lebanese and the Singaporean.

OVERLYSUPPRESSED-INDOOR-CULTIVATED-TROPICAL-SYMDROME

I finally understand the pain of having extra energy to burn after being sick for so long, after days of accumulated overdosage of sleep, after days of being stuck indoors...and YET nowhere to use that little extra bit of energy...what should I call this? the OVERLYSUPPRESSED-INDOOR-CULTIVATED-TROPICAL-SYMDROME?
alright...i'm going to get some fresh fresh air tomorrow!!

HAND,FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE

After 3 days of procrastination to visit the doctor, I finally paid her a visit after spotting some rashes on my hands and feet. My sis-in-law suspected that it was hand, foor and mouth disease. True enough, it was.

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is caused by the Coxsackie virus (a member of the Enterovirus family). The throat and tonsils develop small ulcers while the hands, feet, and diaper area are affected by a rash with characteristic vesicles (very small blisters). This is usually a mild illness with the rash healing in 5 to 7 days.

Passing it off as a common cold initially and undermining the seriousness of being sick definitely have a price to pay. Now, I have to isolate myself from the outside world so that my immune system will be able to recover and not spread it to others at the same time.

Transmission occurs by means of direct contact with nasal and/or oral secretions, fecal material, or aerosolized droplets in a fecal-oral or oral-oral route. Initial viral implantation in the buccal and ileal mucosa is followed by spread to lymph nodes within 24 hours. Viremia rapidly ensues, with spread to the oral mucosa and skin. By day 7, neutralizing antibody levels increase, and the virus is eliminated. ( I do hope so)

Since children and elderly people have a tendency to get the disease much more than adults, the doc was guessing that it was probably due to my long travelling period on the plane and not having sufficient rest after.

Symptoms
Fever.
Sore throat.
Ulcers in the throat, mouth and tongue.
Headache.
A rash with vesicles on hands, feet, and diaper area. The vesicles are typically on the palm side of the hands, the sole side of the feet, and are very characteristic in appearance. The vesicles are also tender or painful if pressed.
Loss of appetite.

I was diagnosed with a fever of 40.2deg C.

Generally, complete recovery occurs in 5 to 7 days. (i'm praying hard for myself to recover fast!)
